Alaina Ramaley, 6, was dressed to impress on Saturday while she waited to hit the ice outside Southdale Center in Edina.
The refrigerated skating rink was the first outdoor rink to open in the metro area, even though the temperature reached the mid-50s.
Alaina skated with her father, Calypso Ramaley, and sister, Alexis, 8. They were among the first to try out the free holiday skating rink, which will be open during mall hours through Jan. 3.
Elsewhere in the metro, the Wells Fargo WinterSkate rink opens in downtown St. Paul on Saturday. City rinks at 22 locations in Minneapolis and 14 locations in St. Paul typically don't open until December.
