Police hunting for a 39-year-old man they believe shot and wounded two people at a home in Chaska converged on the suspect's residence in nearby Jordan early Friday but didn't find him there, a witness said.
Later Friday morning, police identified the suspect in the Thursday night shooting as Joshua L. Gilpin, 38, of Jordan. They described him as white, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 200 pounds. They believe he is traveling on foot.
A male and a female were shot about 9:30 p.m. at the home in the 3600 block of County Road 140 on the west side of Chaska. Both were critically wounded, with one reportedly shot in the neck. Police say the two are being treated at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
"All parties involved knew each other," Chaska Police Chief Scott Knight said in a statement. "The shooting was not random."
Authorities were warning people in the area of County Roads 61 and 140 to stay indoors and lock their residences as the search continued.
Jordan Public Schools announced a two-hour delay for the start of classes Friday morning, saying that decision was made at the recommendation of Jordan police. In an update at 8 a.m., the district said that police had informed it that "there is no longer a concern downtown and at no time" were the schools in any danger.
