Hennepin County prosecutors charged a man Wednesday with shooting a truck driver in the head during a robbery in an Eden Prairie parking lot last weekend.

Kelly N. Anderson, 28, of Albertville, admitted to police that he crashed his vehicle after a night of drinking and walked to the parking lot of Jerry's Foods in Eden Prairie in the 9600 block of Anderson Lakes Parkway about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. There, he demanded that the driver of a semitrailer truck hand over his rig. He then shot the man in the face, with the bullet lodging in his brain.

Anderson was arrested about an hour later. The victim, a 58-year-old man from River Falls, Wis., is in critical condition. Anderson, who has a short criminal history, was charged with attempted first-degree murder. His bail was set at $1 million.

When Anderson was initially questioned by police, he said his vehicle had been stolen at gunpoint at a bar in Bloomington. He also said he had a permit to carry a gun, which was inside the vehicle. The officer said Anderson appeared to be intoxicated.

He later admitted he lied and that he had shot the truck driver, the complaint said. He told police where he discarded his handgun.
