A Maple Grove woman faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct for allegedly carrying on a sexual relationship while a Hennepin County social worker with a client who had a history of chemical dependency and sexual abuse.

The case against Shannon K. Riley, 39, was filed Friday in Hennepin County District Court. She was hired by Hennepin County in January and shortly after assigned the case of a man with considerable health problems who required periodic hospitalization.

According to the complaint:

Riley took the client to a medical appointment on Feb. 1 and afterward drove to a Minneapolis city park where she allegedly joined him in the passenger seat and kissed him. She said she was house-sitting for another client, took him to that residence and allegedly performed oral sex on him.

Riley was assigned the next day to drive the client to Granite Falls, Minn., where he was due to receive chemical dependency treatment. She allegedly took him to a liquor store during the drive and pulled over at one point to perform oral sex, the court papers say.

When the car battery died, Riley called the treatment center to report that the client would be a day late for treatment. They allegedly spent the night in a motel and had sex several times.

On Feb. 8, after driving someone else to Granite Falls, Riley took the client out of treatment and drove him back to Minneapolis, even though he was not eligible to leave, court papers say.

They stopped at a rest stop on the way and Riley allegedly performed oral sex on the client. A week later, she allegedly brought him to her home, gave him four pills he thought were Vicodin and had sex with him.

During this time Riley sent him love letters, text messages, cellphone calls and gifts, according to court papers.

The case against Riley says that the client "has suffered physical and chemical setbacks" as a result of his sexual relationship with her. A woman who answered the phone Friday at Riley's house said she was not available.
