St. Paul police were investigating an armed robbery Thursday night on the city's East Side that -- as in two other recent cases -- saw a gunman fire randomly before fleeing.

"I don't know if anything was taken or not," said officer John Keating, a police spokesman. He had few details about the incident, which occurred just after 8 p.m. at a Holiday station at 1400 Arcade St. One shot was fired, he said.

Investigators were processing the scene, Keating said, and were expected to look into whether Thursday's robbery was connected to two similar incidents in late December.

In each of the cases, no one was hurt. There have been no arrests, Keating said.
