A 17-year-old boy pulled from a lake in Shakopee on Friday afternoon after he was reportedly underwater for around 30 minutes died in a Minneapolis hospital early Saturday.

Jason Daquon Lewis of Shakopee died about 2:30 a.m. at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

A little before 2 p.m., emergency crews were called to a reported drowning at O'Dowd Lake.

Lewis had been fishing with others at the north end of the lake when the group decided to use a raft to travel to a popular island that has a tree swing, said Capt. Jeff Swedin of the Sheriff's Office. Lewis had gotten off the raft to swim to shore, which was 20 to 30 yards away, when he went under, Swedin said.

Lewis was found and first taken to St. Francis Regional Medical Center.
