A six-hour standoff between an armed suspect and police at an apartment building in Fridley ended with a "peaceful outcome" Tuesday night, authorities said.

According to a spokesman for the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, multiple agencies were at the scene at the Georgetown on the River Apartments on Island Drive, near the intersection of East River Road and NE. Charles Street, in response to the presence of a "barricaded subject."

According to media reports, the standoff concluded around 7 p.m. when the suspect was arrested.

"In incidents like these involving a suspect in a standoff with law enforcement, our goal is always to have a peaceful outcome … and that is exactly what happened in this case," Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek said in a statement.

The standoff began about 1 p.m. Residents were evacuated from the building and offered shelter in a heated bus nearby, and East River Road was closed in both directions, later slowing rush-hour traffic.

Television news helicopters captured video of a police vehicle using a battering ram to put what appeared to be a camera into the apartment where the suspect was holed up.

SWAT teams and other law enforcement officers were engaged in a standoff that ended with a “peaceful outcome” in Fridley.

KMSP-TV, Channel 9, reported during its evening newscast that the male suspect, Eugene Boos, had called its newsroom and that news staffers heard him talking to police and with a woman. KMSP said the woman sounded agitated, but told them she wasn't there against her will. Staffers said they heard what sounded like gunshots and screams and that Boos said his finger had been hit.

The standoff building was one of several in a larger complex, and while it had been evacuated, the opposite was true for the other buildings, where police did not allow anyone to leave, she said.
