No more car-through-ice contests

If you were thinking of raising money by parking a car on a frozen lake and offering a prize to whoever most closely guesses the time and date the car tumbles through the ice, your chance has passed.
The Rotary Club of Buffalo held a “car sinking” contest last winter, but the Minnesota Gambling Control Board threw cold water on that fundraising method last month.
The board decided it isn’t a raffle because there is no random selection of a winner.
The Department of Public Safety said it is a form of illegal betting, the board said.
The Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency said that regulation would be needed for “'the deposit of solid waste’ into a protected resource of Minnesota.”
