The woman at the center of the Gophers football rape case testified Monday that she doesn't remember much from the night of the incident but that she knows she didn't consent to sex with former player Dominic Jones.

The 19-year-old former College of St. Catherine student spent about an hour testifying in a packed Hennepin County District Court room. For most of her testimony, she spoke in a strong voice, even correcting the prosecutor and defense lawyer Earl Gray when they misspoke.

But when Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Marlene Senechal showed her still photos of the cell-phone recording of her and defendant Dominic Jones, the woman teared up and spoke softly.

Jones is accused of raping her. Former teammate Alex Daniels recorded Jones and the woman on a cell phone. In the 30-second video, he can be seen masturbating over her. She doesn't appear responsive. Prosecutors say he also raped her. The defense claims she consented.

Senechal asked her whether she had ever seen Jones before. "Not in person," she said. "Only on the news after he was charged with my assault."

The woman, who was 5 feet 3, 117 pounds on April 4, 2007, said she got into a vodka shot-drinking contest that night with former player Robert McField, who has testified he was 6 feet 5 and weighed 270 pounds. "I guess we were going to go shot-for-shot and see who could take the most before stopping," she said.

She went to the apartment at the urging of her friend Laquisha Malone, who knew McField. He and former player E.J. Jones picked her up at her college.

After two shots, she and McField went downstairs so she could smoke a cigarette. She said they then had six more shots in the apartment.

The woman said she remembers her friend helping her onto the couch and then nothing until the following morning when she awoke with her "pants halfway down, underwear in a pocket and a black blanket" over her.

She went into the bathroom with Malone and said she saw a white substance on her face that she wiped off.

Under cross-examination, Gray asked whether she and Malone were laughing that morning. "We may have been," she said. Later that day, she said she went to Regions Hospital for a test because she believed she had been sexually assaulted by someone other than Jones. The woman had sex with three other players that night, but the defense is barred from raising that. No one else has been charged.

The woman admitted she lied to a nurse when asked whether she had been drinking that night. "I was concerned with getting in trouble for alcohol consumption because I was 18," she said.

Senechal asked her whether she saw Dominic Jones at the apartment, whether she consented to sex or any sexual contact with him. The woman said no to all three questions.

Gray put it a different way, noting the woman didn't recall anything from the time she was put on the couch until the following morning. "You don't remember whether or not you consented to anything between the time you laid down on the couch and when Laquisha Malone woke you up the next morning?" She responded, "That's correct."

He picked at inconsistencies, asking whether the last thing she remembers that night is sitting on the couch talking to Malone. "That's what I told police, but that's not the last thing I remember," she said in court, but did not elaborate.

Gray also pressed University of Minnesota police officer James Nystrom about his interviews with McField, whose credibility is crucial to the state's case. McField told police in April that the woman was participating in sex with Jones and moaning. "When did McField tell you he lied?" Gray asked.

"Just this past week," he said.

The trial is expected to end this week.
