This vanity covered with wallpaper from HGTV.com looks really unique and creative. And my friends would definitely be impressed if it was in my bathroom. But it also looks like a do-it-yourself project that would send me to a lonely cabin in the woods with only an outhouse.

I've hung wallpaper and it wasn't pretty. I measured, cut, submerged a massive sheet of paper in water (I always used the pre-pasted kind) and pressed it to the wall. Next came the pull-out-your-hair part: making sure it's hung straight, and smoothing out wrinkles and air bubbles that keep reappearing. And then executing a straight clean cut at the top and bottom.

It took me days to do one room and it still looked like the "before" on an HGTV show.

It's not that covering a vanity with vinyl wallpaper is beyond my skills. I'm just sure the end result will never look as professional and polished as the HGTV version — which was likely covered by a pro. Pasting on the wallpaper piece by piece is a recipe for open seams, blisters and curling edges.

I'll just update my 1990s golden oak bathroom vanity by slapping on a coat of gray paint.

After more clicking at HGTV.com, I unearthed a bathroom embellishment that seems doable as well as cheap:
The Rustic Towel Bar. (http://www.hgtv.com/bathrooms/rustic-towel-bar/index.html.)

It's made of the latest trend — reclaimed wood. Head to a warehouse or home improvement store and ask for a broken palette with straight boards. Pry the pallet boards loose

from the frame with a hammer. Remove the fasteners with the same hammer. Finally, screw in your towel bar and robe hook.

Heck, I can handle that. To dress it up, I think I'll slap on a coat of gray paint.
