TV picks for Dec. 3:  "Scrooged,” "Oz the Great and Powerful,” "Betty White Goes Wild!”

Bobcat Goldthwaite and Bill Murray in “Scrooged.”

Crazy carol

Many films have ripped off — I mean, paid homage to — “A Christmas Carol,” but few have done it with such ingenuity as 1988’s “Scrooged” (7 p.m., ABC Family), director Richard Donner’s modern-day take on the Charles Dickens classic with Bill Murray at his most outrageous.

Not so wonderful

Many films have ripped off — I mean, paid homage to — “The Wizard of Oz,” but few have been as disappointing as 2013’s “Oz the Great and Powerful” (7 p.m., Starz Kids), director Sam Raimi’s beautiful but soulless prequel with James Franco at his slimiest.

Talk to the animals

One of our most beloved entertainers goes on a safari in search of big cats in “Betty White Goes Wild!” (8 p.m., NGW). By “safari,” we mean chaperoned visits to the zoos in San Diego and Los Angeles. For a 91-year-old, perhaps that’s adventurous enough.
