No Twin Cities violinist is busier than Steven Copes, concertmaster of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. This week he turns his attention to the nostalgic, Hollywood-infused Violin Concerto (1945) of Erich Wolfgang Korngold -- perhaps his most enduring work, but one not generally regarded as chamber-orchestra fare. Sharing the bill are Dmitri Shostakovich's arrangements of Scarlatti, Rudolf Barshai's arrangement of Shostakovich (Op. 110a, an SPCO standby) and Sergei Prokofiev's "Overture on Hebrew Themes." The conductor is Bulgarian-born Rossen Milanov, who roomed with Copes at Juilliard.
