After months of rumors, Green Day will be getting its own version of Rock Band, MTV Games announced this morning. Green Day: Rock Band is set for release June 8 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ($60) and Wii ($50). For an extra $10, the 47(!) songs for the Xbox and PS3 versions can be exported to other versions of Rock Band. In fact, a $70 version of the game will add not only that feature but a voucher for six more Green Day tracks via download. Most intriguing is a feature that will add three-part vocals to the Green Day tracks, à la The Beatles: Rock Band. Even though Green Day uses vocal harmonies, they've never struck me as a "vocal" group, so it will be interesting to see how the feature comes out. The gist of the game is similar to the Beatles release: "Taking on the likenesses of Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool [pictured], players progress through the story and history of Green Day, gaining access into the band's media vault, where they can unlock more than 100 collectible images, and more than 40 minutes of rare and unreleased video from interviews, outtakes and performances," the developers said. Green Day is not the most, um, technically proficient among modern rock bands, but I have to admit that their existing three songs on Rock Band are fun to play. And, hey, if Rock Band can tout Lady GaGa -- four songs coming Tuesday via DLC -- then more Green Day will be cool.
