Word of the week: If you like new terms, this will be a happitizer

May 9, 2017 at 5:37PM

Definition: A little thing that improves your mood.

Sample usage: "I'm over the disappointment of not being able to pronounce the new name of Lake Calhoun because I stumbled on the happetizer of YouTube puppy videos."

Popularity: It's a charming word, but you know it's going to be co-opted by casual dining chains in about 37 seconds: "Roll in for our jumbo shrimp jalapeño Mucho Gusto happitizers today, only $4.99!" (Video of shrimp floating slo-mo in a spray of water.) After that, it'll never return to its original meaning.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020.
