WHAT IS IRV?

Instant-runoff voting is a method in which voters rank candidates on a ballot. If no candidate gets a majority (50 percent plus one vote) in the first round of counting, then the candidate with the fewest first-place votes is dropped and the second-place votes on the dropped candidate's ballots are reassigned. The process repeats until someone reaches a majority.
