St. Paul is accepting applications for its next Emergency Medical Services Academy. Applications must be completed and submitted online at www.stpaul.gov/jobs no later than Friday, Oct. 31.

The EMS Academy is a 14-week program designed for low-income adults from St. Paul, ages 18-30, who are interested in careers in emergency medicine. Those selected will earn $8 an hour while attending the academy. They will earn CPR Certification, First Responder Certification and conduct ride-alongs with the St. Paul Fire Department. Academy graduates are eligible for national EMT certification and can work in a variety of EMT positions.

The next EMS Academy runs from Jan. 12 to April 24, 2015.

"The EMS Academy is extremely important to the city and its residents," said Mayor Chris Coleman. "The Academy is proving to be a powerful way to diversify the Fire Department, providing graduates with a path into firefighting jobs, and the department with a diverse candidate pool."

The academy is open to St. Paul residents who are between the ages of 18 and 30 and have a G.E.D. or high school diploma. Applicants must provide documented proof of residency and household income. Applications must be submitted online at www.stpaul.gov/jobs

The EMS Academy will host two information sessions at St. Paul Fire Station 51: Freedom House 296 7th Street West. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to attend an information session. Information sessions will be held Monday, Oct. 6th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Tuesday, Oct. 14th, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
