A large region from southern New Mexico to Louisiana continues to suffer undera devastating drought.The drought has also helped to sustain the long-term heat wave over thesouthern Plains, as some locations have only had a handful of days below the100-degree mark since the beginning of June.

Recent rainfall has helped out across the Southeast, but there is still asignificant region experiencing a severe drought.
