Rosemount sophomore Hannah Grim is in a transition period.

Grim just finished competing in her third consecutive Class 2A cross-country state meet, and now is preparing for basketball season.

The Irish distance runner finished in 122nd place with a time of 16 minutes, 05.4 seconds over the 4,000-meter course in the state meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Grim qualified for state by finishing 10th in the Section 3 meet with a time of 14:58.

She finished 86th as a freshman with a time of 15:44.2 after taking 28th place with a time of 15:35.5 in her first state meet appearance as an eighth-grader in 2009. Grim also runs track and field for the Irish in the spring.

Here is a closer look at Grim:

The best movie I've seen in the past year? "Bridesmaids."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Remember The Name" by Fort Minor; "Lose Yourself" by Eminem; "I Just Wanna Run" by Downtown Fiction.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Competitive, quick, funny.

Favorite meal before a meet or game? Spaghetti.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? It can be hard at times, but it is manageable if I use my time well.

How did you get started playing the sports you play now in high school? I've played basketball for years, and I started cross-country in middle school because I had always enjoyed running.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... nervous and not sure what to expect.

What did you work on in the offseason to prepare for 2011-12? My other sports and continuing to run.

What are your goals for the 2011-12 school year as an athlete? To keep improving with each sport and continuing to work hard.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Winning the section cross-country meet as a team and going to state in 2010.

To get focused for a meet I ... listen to music and think about what I want to accomplish.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? Nothing. I enjoy high school sports.

When you have time off during vacation, what do you like to do? Spend time with friends and sleep in.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Miami Heat because LeBron James plays for that team.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... finished with college and working in whatever career I choose.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? To never let anyone get in the way of my goals and to always give everything I have.
