Eftefield, Sandra Lee age 87 of Anoka, formerly of Big Lake, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024. Born in Detroit Lakes on June 3, 1936. Preceded in death by husband, Duane Eftefield; daughter, Vicki Jo Sanford-Key; grandsons, Griffin and Jonah Sanford; stepdaughter, Charlene; and parents, Norman and Alice (Rasmussen) Courneya. Survived by children, Kathryn (Jon) Holmes, Thomas (Cindy) Sanford, Daniel (Marilyn) Sanford, Michael Sanford, David (Jennifer) Sanford, Steven Sanford; stepdaughters, Debra, Becky, Jennifer; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and other family and friends. Dr. Allan Garvis

Garvis, Dr. Allan passed away peacefully at his home on April 23rd, 2024. With eighty-five years spent in this world, Allan leaves a wonderful legacy full of friends, family, and a large tribe of former patients. They are left with memories and smiles created by a man who had an artist's touch in personal relationships, a sense of humor that laughed with people and not at them, and the knowledge that he truly cared for them. His career as a dentist was marked by a large and growing practice that continued on that trajectory until his retirement. To this day, his name evokes warm smiles. Preceded in death by parents, Marvin and Sara; sister, Lonnie; and dearly departed wife, Idy. Survived by a large community of lifelong friends and family, including his son and daughter-in-law, Nate and Trissa Garvis; his beloved granddaughters, Ivy and Violet; and his ex-wife, Audra, who remained a close and loving friend until his death. Julie Kaye Johnson

Johnson, Julie Kaye At age 74, passed away Feb. 7, 2024, from complications after months of complex leg surgeries. Born in Minneapolis, after high school, Julie studied music at the UofM, where she met her love, David Zech. Married in 1970, they raised two children. Later she got a degree in landscape/garden design. She worked for Lyndale Gardens many years. Julie loved music. A superb pianist, she played at church and sang in the choir. She loved the outdoors, gardening, and being with family. An avid reader and a quilter, she made boiled-wool mittens and also lefse. She enjoyed cribbage. Julie is preceded in death by parents, Earle and Gladys Johnson. She is deeply missed by David Zech, son Hans Zech (Darylee), daughter Erika Bonneau (Kevin), brother Jay Johnson, sister Diane Entrikin (John), 9 grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Margaret Anne 'Peggy' Root

Root, Margaret Anne "Peggy" passed away on April 13, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born in Lansing, MI on September 23, 1928. Preceded in death by husband, Roland Root and daughter, Jean Backstrom. Survived by children: Roland (Jan) Root, Patty (Caye) Butler, Carol Root, and son-in-law Mike Backstrom; grandchildren: Jeff (Dhila) Backstrom, Robert Backstrom, Nicole Hoiland, Matt Little, Kristin (Andrew) Nelson; great grandchildren: Treyton and Atreya Backstrom, Kael and Ethan Nelson, and Kian and Morgan Hoiland. Peggy was a loving mom and grandma. She was the foundation of our family and loved us all unconditionally. She also had many good friends throughout her life. Peggy loved nature and traveling. Corinne M. (Erickson) Schulz

Schulz (Erickson), Corinne M. 94, of Crystal passed away April 23, 2024. Born May 3,1929 in Minneapolis, she graduated from North HS. Corinne was a charter member of Cornerstone Church and enjoyed serving the congregation in many capacities during her life. On June 1, 1956, she married Robert Schulz, and together raised two children Ken and Doug. Corinne is preceded in death by parents Ernest and Laura Erickson. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert, children Kenneth and Douglas, sister Carol Sundquist and many extended family members. Memorial service at Cornerstone Church, 5000 W. Leone Jaenson 'Lee' (Nelson) Zopff

Zopff, Leone (Lee) Jaenson Nelson Age 94, of Minneapolis and the Gunflint Trail, passed away March 9, 2024. Preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; husbands Jack Nelson and Fred Zopff. Lee was born in St. Cloud, MN, in 1930. She graduated from Tech High School & was named the Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes in 1949. Lee attended Gustavus Adolphus College where she met her husband, Jocko, who became a football coach. They enjoyed many years of attending games, including 3 Superbowls with the MN Vikings, and making friends along the way. They owned Jocko's Clearwater Lodge on the Gunflint Trail for many years and following Jocko's early death, Lee ran the resort on her own for several years. She spent summers at her home on Leo Lake, where she hosted friends and family. Lee was an active member of the Gunflint Trail Historical Society and Gunflint Trail Quilters; she volunteered at Chik-wauk Museum, Westminster Church and Orchestra Hall. Lee was a wonderful wife, mother, businesswoman, grandmother and friend. She was a talented baker, seamstress, knitter, quilter and enjoyed craft projects. Lee loved to support her grandchildren by attending events, games, concerts and many birthday parties. Survived by children, Margaret (John Books), Jackie (Mike Gulden), Dan, Bob (Angela); grandchildren, Jenny, Patrick, Hannah, Caroline, Jack; 3 great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1200 Marquette Ave, Minneapolis, on Saturday, May 4th. Visitation from 10-11am, funeral service at 11am. A luncheon reception will follow at the church. A private burial will be held. A Celebration of Life is planned for this summer on the Gunflint Trail.
