Smith, Marguerite 91, of St. Anthony, formerly of New Ulm, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at the St. Anthony Health Center in St. Anthony. Marguerite Jane Quiggle, the daughter of Ernest and Lorena (Held) Quiggle, was born November 16, 1915, in Blue Earth. As a child, she moved with her family to Owatonna, where she attended schools, graduating from Owatonna High School in 1932. Marguerite married Carroll Smith December 28, 1937, in Owatonna. They made their home in New Ulm where Marguerite worked for several local downtown retail stores, including Herberger's. Her husband died May 8, 1989. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm. Marguerite was a loving mother and caring friend remembered for her sweet spirit, her creativity and ingenuity, her integrity, and her gift for friendship. Survivors include her daughter, Maureen Smith of St. Paul; son, Peter Smith of Minneapolis; sister, Dorrene Dunleavy of Hartford, CT; brother, Winston Quiggle and his wife Barbara of Roswell, NM; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Funeral service will be 2 PM Monday, January 15, at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial to follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Schmucker Funeral Service of New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
