Melink, George Emil (Dec. 23, 1924-Feb. 2, 2015) George E . Melink, age 90, of Prior Lake, MN, passed away on February 2, 2015. Born to John and Celia Melink in Hibbing, MN. He was preceded in death by wife of 50 years Joan B. Melink, brother John and two sisters Lilly and Eleanor. George is survived by children Dan (Nancy) Melink of Prior Lake, Tom Melink of Maple Grove, Georgiann (Dan) Keyport of Chaska, John Melink of Gilbert, AZ and grandchildren Ted, Ben, Samantha, Dana, Andrea, Charlie, Cady, and Mackenzie. He is also survived by his sister Eva, of Supply NC, and a sister in-law Jeanie, of Loveland Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. After serving in the Army during WWII in South Pacific he studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of MN and graduated in 1950. George had an interesting career starting at Northern Pump in Minneapolis which manufactured large naval ordinance, North American Aviation in California where he worked in the early Apollo Space program and on XB70 bomber. George spent the rest of his career working at Univac (Unisys) in Roseville on mainframe computers. George and Joan resided in Burnsville for 36 years. George was generous with all he had and worked hard to give his family a good life. George was proud of his Iron Range roots and Italian heritage. He was active for many years in the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, the American Legion, and DFL politics. He enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, gardening, and wine making. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mary, Mother Catholic Church, 3333 Cliff Road, Burnsville on Tuesday 02/10/15 at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior at the church.
