Wenzlaff Lorita B., age 92, of Edina, passed away on August 8, 2005. Preceded in death by husband, August. Survived by children, Velma, Katherine and William; grandchildren, Nicole, Cody, Christopher and Lynaya; and siblings, Margaret, Robert and Raymond. Born Lorita Belle Swift in 1912 in Wellington, SD, she grew up in Sioux Falls, SD and after training at Sioux Valley Hospital, became an RN in 1939. She served as Lt. Commander in the US Navy from 1942-47. She married August Wenzlaff in 1947 and moved to Pipe- stone, MN, where she raised her children and worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross. They moved to Mankato, MN in 1965, where she returned to nursing. From 1967-73 they lived in Ames, IA, where they owned and operated the New Frontier Motel. From 1974-80 they lived in Omaha, NE, where she once again returned to nursing. In 1980 they moved to the Twin Cities area, where she resumed work as a volunteer in health-related areas. Since 1998 she has lived at Walker Elder Suites and since February at Edina Care Center. Even in her later years, she continued nursing others - offering words of encouragement and giving backrubs. In death she made her final contribution to medicine by donating her body to the University of Minnesota for anatomical study. She will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful mother, grandmother, nurse and friend who truly loved and cared for others. Memorial service 11 AM Wed., Aug. 17, 2005 at Berea Lutheran Church, 7538 Emerson Ave S., Richfield, MN. Visitation one hour prior to church service. Private interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in 2007. Memorials preferred to Mayo Foundation, Department of Development - Alzheimer's Research, 200 2nd SW, Rochester, MN 55905.
