Lexau Eileen A. Lexau (nee O'Hara), age 77, of Saint Paul, died peacefully on Sunday, November 21, 2004. Preceded in death by loving husband, Henry Lexau; son, John Lexau, and brothers, James, Kevin and Patrick O'Hara. Will be held in loving memory by her sister, Sister Mary L. O'Hara, C.S.J.; by her children, (and their spouses and children) Catherine Lexau (David Hest and son Robert Hest), Margaret Lexau (Joel Alter, son, Kevin Alter and daughters Anne and Mary Alter), Daniel Lexau, Elizabeth Lexau (Craig Shanks and daughters Lucia and Laurel Shanks), and Benjamin Lexau (Jennifer Torinus, son Henry Lexau and daughter Kenna Lexau); by her aunt, Rosemary Hampston, (St. Louis, MO) by her sisters-in-law, Joan Lexau (Otisville, NY), Josephine O'Hara (Albuquerque, NM) and Marie O'Hara (Baltimore, MD); by her niece Mary O'Hara (New York, NY); by her other relatives and neighbors, and by her many lifelong friends. Eileen was born in Saint Paul in 1927, the youngest child ("Chickie") of James and Louise O'Hara. A life-long parishioner of Saint Mark's Catholic Church, she graduated from St. Mark's Grade School, St. Joseph's Academy, and the College of St. Catherine. She met Henry Lexau while working at the Catholic Digest and they married in 1952. Eileen was blessed with common sense, a great sense of humor, and a love of the English language. Memories from Eileen's childhood and youth, growing up in Saint Paul during the Depression, summer trips to Triska and White farms in Kansas, and work after college at the Catholic Worker in New York City, made for wonderful stories she shared with her children. Her favorite pastimes included bridge, reading, needlework, opera, and, of course, constructing crossword puzzles (some published by the New York Times). Eileen retired in 1990 from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources after many years of state service. MARK, 2001 Dayton Ave., St. Paul. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home 4-8 PM Tuesday (TODAY). Memorials to the Dorothy Day Center, St. Mark's School, or College of St. Catherine.
