Kroening, Carl W. age 89 passed away June 29, 2017 surrounded by family. Carl was born in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from John Marshall High School and earned a Bachelor's and two Master's degrees from the University of Minnesota. In 1950, he married Ruth Manning and raised six daughters. He served as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. A life-long educator in the Minneapolis Public Schools, Carl taught chemistry at North High and served several schools as Assistant Principal. He was appointed to the Minnesota Higher Education Coordinating Commission, serving from 1971-1974. He served North Minneapolis in the State House of Representatives from 1975-1981 and the State Senate from 1981-1997. He was passionate about education, horse racing and golf. As a loyal and loving family man, he was active in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John (Joan) and Martin. He is survived by his daughters Kathryn (Timothy) Kroening-Smith, Judith, Cynthia (David Lauckner), Rosemary (Mark Barthelemy), Anne-Marie Johnson, Carole (Michael Sweere), former wife Ruth, two brothers George (Nancy), Robert (Paula) and sister-in-law June. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 11th with visitation at 10:00 AM at St. Austin's Catholic Church, 4050 Upton Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55412. Private interment.
