Price, Sylvester age 96, of St. Paul, passed away February 21, 2014. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte Mitau-Price; sisters, Selma Lewin and Delores Mass. Sylvester is survived by step-children, Andrea Mitau Kircher (Robert Kircher) and Lee Mitau (Karin Birkeland); step-grandchildren, Alexa Fang, Geoffrey Turner, Alida Birkeland Mitau and G. Birkeland Mitau; step-great-granddaughter, Nathalie Turner; niece, Susan Quart and nephew Paul Lewin. Syl's life was filled with warmth, wit, and humor. Although increasingly physically frail, his mind stayed sharp. (He used to say, "If I'd known I was going to live so long, I would've taken better care of myself!") He had a keen intellect that made him an excellent companion, an accomplished bridge player, an avid reader to the end of his life, and an encyclopedic source of birth dates and anniversaries of friends and relatives. He was fluent in Yiddish and active in the Yiddish Vinkl (a club for Yiddish speakers), performing various literary and comic works in Yiddish. He also loved attending the Men's Club and the Book Club at the Jewish Community Center. He was beloved by all who came in contact with him and always had a kind word or an old joke for those he met. He leaves an enduring legacy of close friendships. Funeral service MONDAY 11:00 A.M. at SHOLOM HOME EAST, 740 Kay Ave., St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Paul Jewish Community Center or the donor's favorite charity. SHIVA, Monday 7:00 p.m. at the Sholom Home East.
