Hanson, Arlene K. (Quast) age 82, of Bloomington, MN, passed away on January 24, 2014 after a brief battle with Dementia and Alzheimer related issues. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years Gene. Arlene was a devoted, kind and loving mother to her children, Kathryn (Larry) Mazon, Terri Defeo and Bob Hanson. She was a doting grandmother to Holly, Heather, Megan, Thomas and Claire and a special sister to Lavern Quast, Phyllis Erickson, Eugene Quast (deceased) and Diane Vorlicek. She was a beloved sister-in-law to Jerry Bruns, Joanne Milham, Roger Bruns and Sandra Bruns. She will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Arlene was born in Richmond, MN, March 6, 1931 to Sylvester Quast and Rosella (nee Meierhofer). She was raised in Litchfield where she worked at the Travelers Inn and the Litchfield Hotel. In September of 1949 when she was 19, a handsome young Airman stopped into the hotel on his way home to Willmar on a two week leave and he asked her out. They spent much of the two weeks together and before he left, to return to base, he asked her to marry him and she said yes. This was her dream to marry and to leave Litchfield. Over the next twenty years she followed Gene all over the world and they began a family. When he retired in 1968 from the U.S. Air Force they returned to settle in Minnesota. Arlene was blessed with a heart of gold, a kind and gentle soul, love of life and the gift of gab. She loved to line-dance and made many special friends over the years through this passion. She was an excellent cook, baker and her desserts were always in high demand. A celebration of Arlene's life will be at EPIPHANY CATHOLIC CHURCH (Hanson Blvd. & 111th Ave. NW in Coon Rapids) on Monday, February 3rd, 2014 at 10:30 AM with visitation one hour before. A private interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
