Acheson, Robert G. 84, of Grand Rapids, MN, died peacefully at home on March 29, 2010, surrounded by his children. Robert was born in 1925 to James W. and Kittie Acheson in Grand Rapids, MN, where he grew up and graduated from Grand Rapids High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to June Madeline Passard on May 13, 1950, in Grand Rapids. Robert received his business degree from the Minneapolis Business College in Minneapolis, MN. He took over the family business in 1953 and owned and operated Acheson Tire Inc. in Grand Rapids, MN, for over 40 years. He was a long-time member of the North Central Dealers and Suppliers Association and the National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association. Robert truly loved his work and treasured all his customers and business associates. He was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a charter member of the Grand Rapids Kiwanis Club, and a member of the American Legion and VFW. Robert was an astute businessman, a talented athlete and a devoted husband and father. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, and for his kind, compassionate and generous spirit. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, June, in 1998; his parents; three brothers, Virgil Acheson, Bernard Acheson and Donald Acheson; three sisters, Joyce Albrecht, Marian Jacobson and Grace Johnson; sister-in-law Ruth Acheson; brother-in-law Andy Passard; and a special nephew Jim Acheson and his son Scott Acheson. Survived by his children, Robert J. Acheson of Rochester, MN, Janet (Neal) Gragg of Faribault, MN, Jeff Acheson of Phoenix, AZ, Jean (Daniel) Anderson of Grand Rapids, MN, John Acheson (Lynn Helmbrecht) of Grand Rapids, MN, Mary Beth (Kevin) Sayre of Bloomington, MN and William (Emily) Acheson of Waconia, MN; grandchildren, Timothy Acheson, Anna Acheson, Abbey Acheson- Hernandez, Zachary Sayre, Eric Anderson, Claire Acheson, David Acheson; step-grandchildren, Bill Gragg, Amy Gragg, Traci Sayre- Anderson, Cortnee Sayre-Hansen, Jade Helmbrecht and Sydney Helmbrecht. Also survived by one sister, Alice Hooker of Missouri; two sisters-in- law, Mary Lou Passard of Grand Rapids, MN and Eileen (Larry) Shustarich of Virgina, MN, and many wonderful nieces & nephews and their families. Visitation and wake prayer service was held Sunday, April 4 in the Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids. Visitation continued in St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Monday, April 5 followed by Mass of Christian Burial. Rev. Fr. Jerry Weiss officiated. Burial with full military honors in Itasca- Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.
