Harrington, Mary Adeline (nee Halvorson) Age 86, of Richfield. Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and friend. Former longtime resident of Virginia, MN. Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 20, 2009. Preceded in death by husband Charles P., parents George P. and Mary G. Halvorson, and brother George G. Valedictorian graduate of Washburn H.S., class of 1940. Attended the University of Minnesota, earning Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in History. Commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1944. Recalled to active service during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Awarded a Yale University fellowship in 1955. Taught in Granite Falls, MN, the former Ely (MN) Junior College, and more than 22 years at Roosevelt High School in Virginia, MN. Survived by brother John A., children Joseph (Judith), John (Mary), Thomas (Catherine), Margaret Conroy (William), Mary Armstrong (Ty), and Paul (Jennifer), sixteen grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be remembered by innumerable friends and former students, as well as fellow residents of Gramercy Park Cooperative in Richfield where she resided for the past 8 years. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 24th, Church of the Annunciation, 509 W. 54th St., Minneapolis. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 23rd, Gill Brothers Funeral Chapel, 5801 Lyndale Ave S., Minneapolis, and at the Church 1 hr prior to Mass. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
