Philbin, Thomas Michael In Loving Memory of Tom Philbin, a loving husband, father, son, and brother, passed away on September 12, 2023, in Plymouth, Minnesota, at the age of 65. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. Tom was born on July 11, 1958, in Niles, Illinois, where he grew up as one of five children. He was a caddy during his younger years, a job that fueled his passion for golf. It also provided a framework for creating meaningful relationships, something he prioritized throughout his life. Tom attended the University of Notre Dame, where he was a proud alumnus and generous donor. Tom had a successful and fulfilling 30+ year career in the agricultural industry and served as a leader of a global sales organization. He was known as a great manager and an esteemed public speaker. His work allowed him to travel all over the world. He frequently recounted his time residing in Singapore for three years early on in his career. He always returned from his travels eager to share stories of his adventures in remote parts of Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. He was a traveler, not a tourist - a distinction he frequently noted. Tom loved visiting new countries and cities, walking the streets for hours without a map. He traveled to just about every region of the world, totaling 60 countries. Tom LOVED golf and was a true competitor. He was a student of the game and his passion for golf extended beyond the sport itself; it was a means of spending meaningful time with his friends, family, and colleagues. Some of his favorite golf moments included his first hole-in-one, participating in the opening of the Streamsong Golf Resort, and winning the Freeport McMoran New Orleans Pro-Am tournament in 2002. Tom eagerly anticipated golf tournaments at Wayzata Country Club and golf trips with his friends. Tom and Diane were happily married for 31 years. They enjoyed weekly Saturday dinners, traveling around the world, playing card games, walking the family dog, and watching movies together. Tom's pride and joy were his two sons, Ryan (29) and Chris (26). He was an exceptional father and role model. Tom was their unwavering support system, always ready to provide guidance or simply share in their joys and challenges. He treasured quality time spent with his boys, including the special Asia trips he took them on after each of their college graduations. Tom is survived by his wife, Diane Philbin; his sons, Ryan [Natalie] Philbin and Chris Philbin; his mother, Nancy Garcia; his siblings, Sue [Mike] Glomski, Jim [Diane] Philbin, Kevin Philbin, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Philbin; sister, Carol Phillips, and step-father, George Garcia. Mass of Christian Burial to honor Tom's life will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Bartholomew 630 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata, MN. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Holy Name Cemetery, located at 2000 Holy Name Dr., Wayzata, MN. Let us remember him for his adventurous spirit, kindness, and the enduring love and support he shared with his family and friends. Tom's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. David Lee Funeral Home Wayzata 952-473-5577 davidleefuneralhome.com
