Niemioja, Linda (January 10, 1954 July 2, 2022) Linda Niemioja passed away peacefully with her husband Ahto by her bedside on July 2 in St. Paul, MN at the age of 68 after a four year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Linda was born to John W. and Pearl M. Fleer in Council Bluffs, IA on January 10, 1954. The family later moved to Edina, Minnesota. She spent her childhood with her older sister Carol Sue and brother John Lawrence "Larry" in Edina. Linda excelled in school and graduated near the top of her class as a National Merit Finalist from Edina High School in 1972. She later received a BS in computer science from the University of Minnesota and worked as a programmer, analyst and Data Base Manager for over 31 years, receiving numerous accolades for her work. Linda married Ahto T. Niemioja on August 31, 1974 after meeting him during their studies at the University of Minnesota. They moved to Finland shortly thereafter and had their first son Mikko on May 17, 1975 and later returned to Hopkins, MN. Their second son, Kevin, was born on October 16, 1978 while the family resided in Brooklyn Park, MN. She was very active in her children's lives helping them with school, sports and always guiding them with her love and wisdom. After her retirement in 2009, she continued to be the benevolent matriarch of the family by helping care for her five grandchildren: Tapio (15), Pearl (13), Connor (12), Zoey (10) and Markus (8). Spending time with them was her greatest joy later in life as she not only continued to kindly guide and teach, but also spoil them in all of the best ways that a grandmother can. Her other hobbies included collecting Barbie dolls, literature, watching movies and traveling with her family. She was a valued volunteer helping those less fortunate in the community at a number of charities and adopting a countless number of families around the holidays to make sure as many as possible could have a Merry Christmas. Linda was preceded in death by her parents John and Pearl. She is survived by her sister Carol, brother John, husband Ahto, children Kevin (Gretchen) and Mikko (Elizabeth) and her grandchildren Tapio, Pearl, Connor, Zoey and Markus. Linda will be remembered by her friends and family as one of the most caring and selfless individuals that anyone of us had the fortune of meeting. Her family wishes to express their gratitude for everyone who has reached out, visited or expressed their sympathies and prayers over past 4 years. Memorial details will be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to: Neighbors neighborsmn.org/ Washburn-McReavy.com Dawn Valley Chapel 952-941-7686 9940 Bush Lake Rd., Bloomington
