Hardy, James Deane Jim was born in Grafton, North Dakota in 1929 and grew up in Park River, North Dakota. He attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated with a BA in Accounting and Finance in 1951. He was in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He married the love of his life, Joan Mrachek, who preceded him in death in 2019 after 63 years of marriage. They raised five children (one daughter and four sons), Mary Susan (Andrew) Fraser, Patrick, Michael, James (Brenda), Joseph (Molly). They have eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Jim spent his entire business career of forty years with Farmhand, Inc., a manufacturing and marketing company of industrial and farm equipment. He was hired as a general accountant and retired as Director, Vice President, and CFO of the company. His outside business activities included President of the Twin Cities chapter of FEI (Financial Executive International), Director of Minneapolis Chapter of IMA (Institute of Management Accountants), Executive President and Treasurer of the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce, a Director of US Bank (Hopkins, St. Louis Park and Minnetonka) and thirty-three years as a Director of Roberts Automatic Products, Inc. in Chanhassen, Minnesota. After retirement he was involved in volunteer activities including Director and Treasurer of a Food Shelf Operation (ICA), President of Pleasant Acres Home Owners Association, Meals on Wheels, Loaves and Fishes, Knights of Columbus and President and Treasurer of the Excelsior Men's Garden Club. Jim and Joan traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe and lived most of their married lives in the city of Chanhassen and were active members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in Excelsior. Memorial Mass is on Thursday, Dec. 9th, 11 AM with visitation starting at 10 AM, all at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 680 Mill Street, Excelsior. Memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish or Excelsior Men's Garden Club. The family is requesting that masks be worn at the service.
