Thyken, Marjorie Elaine age 85, of Medina, Minnesota died March 5, 2021 after suffering a severe stroke. Margie was active, strong willed, and damn independent. She was an accomplished artist and painter, focusing much of her energy on the Sumi-e Japanese ink style of painting. She was focused on her technique and truly enjoyed her time in classes with many good friends learning and refining different brush strokes. Her art was displayed at various city art displays and is proudly displayed by her family in their homes. Margie was one of the first in her family to attend college, graduating from Hamline University with a Nursing degree. She put that degree to good use as a nurse for years until she left the profession to raise her family. She took the role seriously, managing the household, coordinating three children's activities and sports, and trying to juggle all those schedules to have family meals. Margie was an awesome baker and cook, specializing in pies which she has tried to pass on to her kids (unsuccessfully) and grandkids (with moderate success). Margie spent a great deal of time with genealogy, tracing the family tree back many generations. She has managed to collect ten 3 ring binders of information, pictures, and articles from her searches. She found a number of accomplished artists in the family and discovered many interesting stories and facts from long ago. Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Dauwen Thyken, her sisters Beverly Block and Lois Kurth. She is survived by her children, Michael (Rebecca) of Minneapolis, MN; Daniel (Leanne) of Anoka, MN; and Elizabeth (Scott) Henderson of Winterset, IA; sister Jeanne Koran (George) of St. Paul, MN; and brother Jim Momberger of St. Paul MN; and two grandchildren, Steven (Garrett) and Kathleen. Due to the Covid pandemic, the family will not hold a visitation or funeral. Please find a way to celebrate Margie's life in a safe and healthy way. Please leave a message on Margie's Caringbridge site at caringbridge.org/visit/… to support the family. Memorials can be made to Margie's favorite charities including Friends of the Plymouth Library, the University of St. Thomas Thyken Endowed Scholarship, or Planned Parenthood.
