Bauman (Becker), Dorothea passed away on December 18, 2020 at the age of 89. She was born Melvina Becker in 1931 to Tom and Anastasia (Kolles) Becker of St. Michael, MN. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Little Falls, MN. Dorothea entered the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, MN & became Sister Mary Dorothea Becker. Dorothea attended St. Frances School of Nursing in Breckenridge, MN and received her RN degree. She pursued her religious and medical career at the St Frances Hospital in Breckenridge, MN, St. Anthony Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, and Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Mpls. She later left the convent and took the name Dorothea Elizabeth Becker. She married Gilbert in November of 1976. Dorothea was a company nurse at Dayton's in Mpls. for 19 years, followed by 4 years of service at the Midwest Community Hospice, Mpls. She often said that "these were the most rewarding years of my nursing career". Post retirement, Dorothea served two terms as chairperson for the Dayton Retirees in Volunteer Enterprises. For 15 years, she and Gilbert tutored first graders in the Mpls. school system. Dorothea was passionate about quilting and also enjoyed knitting. Many quilts were donated to various fund raisers. Dorothea was a loving and caring woman, who gave from her heart and soul so others could live improved and longer lives. She has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Deacon Donald and Bernard Becker; sister, Johnelle Becker OSF and sister-in-law, Rose Becker (wife to Donald); and brothers-in-law, Jerry Speltz and Donald Magnuson. Survived by husband, Gilbert Bauman; sister, Betty Speltz-Magnuson; brother, Thomas (Joanne) Becker; sister-in-law, Grace Becker; and extended family. Memorial Mass to be held at a later date.
