Empey, Peter Anthony Age 48, of Deer River, MN, formerly of Eagan, MN, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 28, 2018 on beautiful Johnson Lake at his family home with family by his side after his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Peter was born in 1970 to Allan and Jo Ann Empey in Coon Rapids, MN. He graduated from Elk River High School in 1988, where he was a basketball star and remembered as "Pistol Pete", for his record breaking three-point shots. After graduation, he moved to California for several years. He returned to Minnesota and was united in marriage to Theresa (Fyten) on April 7, 1999. They made Ramsey, MN their home and started a family together. Pete was employed for many years at Mystic Lake Casino as a Manager in the Bingo Department. Pete's passions were: his children Cody and Katelyn, family, sports (of all types), and fishing. He coached basketball for both his children and encouraged the importance of being a team player. He loved the outdoors, getting together with his best friends, Phil (Judy) and Steve, and slaying the fish like his dad, Allan. He loved 80's rock music, reading the Star Tribune, going to Twins games, talking on the phone with his mom, and had a special relationship with his only sibling, Jason. He was easy to talk to, complained very little, and handled his struggles with poise and humor. Preceding him in death were his parents, Allan and Jo Anne (Henry) Empey; and his grandparents, Clifford and Blanche and Margaret and Paul; and many aunts and uncles and cousins. Peter is survived by his daughter, Katelyn Empey of Rochester, MN; son, Cody Empey of Rochester, MN; and brother, Jason (Samantha) Empey of Deer River, MN; aunt Kay (Otis) Ricker; uncle Jim (Diane) Empey; and many cousins. A visitation will be held Saturday, August 4th, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. until the 12:00 P.M. Memorial Service at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN with a luncheon to follow. Rev.
