Another annual rite of spring is the Minnesota Rovers' Gear Swap.

The outdoors club's event is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Como Park.

"It is a Rovers tradition. We do it in the spring and fall, and have been doing it since 2003 — and probably a long time before that," said organizer and former Rovers president Barry Shillingford. "Rovers buy a lot of outdoors gear, but also like to get a good deal when they can. Also (the gear swap) fits in with the Rover ethic of reusing and recycling. You never know what you might find. Anything related to our activities of camping, biking, hiking, paddling, climbing or skiing."

There will be gear to buy, and anyone attending can bring gear to sell. The meeting is the group's first outdoors gathering (they meet weekly at Macalester College in colder seasons). The Rovers will meet at Como Park at the picnic area northwest of Estabrook Drive and Midway Parkway, through August. The meetings are open to the public.

The Rovers club is in its 63rd year.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
