A few weeks back I took the day off work and took the dog with me up to Moose Lake State Park. It wasn't the greatest weather, but it was nice to get out and turn our attention to the simpler (yet astounding) things in life.

Extol the virtues of the other seasons all day long: fall is the one that colors our world. Leaves, of course, are the stars of the show, each one brighter than the next; mushrooms and squashes are close behind. Milkweed also springs into action, its bursting pods putting on a show of their own. Thanks to the many readers who took the time to step back and appreciate all fall has to offer.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat. It’s too soon to tell how much the immigration crackdown is to blame.
