Flooding Is the Big Story, But Extreme Drought Continues

Extreme drought conditions continue from southern New Mexico to the westernGulf Coast despite some recent rainfall from thunderstorms.The worst areas of drought at this current time are from West Texas tosoutheastern New Mexico. A second region of terrible drought stretches fromsouth-central Texas to extreme western Louisiana.

The flooding that is swamping parts of Louisiana is mostly the result ofrecord-breaking river crests coming downstream from the midwestern U.S.
