Extreme drought conditions continue from southern New Mexico to the western Gulf Coast despite some recent rainfall from thunderstorms.

The worst areas of drought at this current time are from West Texas to southeastern New Mexico. A second region of terrible drought stretches from south-central Texas to extreme western Louisiana.

The flooding that is swamping parts of Louisiana is mostly the result of record-breaking river crests coming downstream from the midwestern U.S.
