"Church Basement Ladies 2! A Second Helping" is beginning a regional tour with a performance at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center.

The original "Church Basement Ladies" was inspired by the books of Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson, creators of the best-seller "Growing Up Lutheran." The show opened at the Plymouth Playhouse in September 2005 and has enjoyed rousing success.

The sequel is set in 1969 and a fast-changing world. But as usual, the church basement ladies -- that under-appreciated crew of moms and grandmas who cook and arrange the food for everything from weddings to pot luck suppers -- continue to make miracles happen on a weekly basis.

The professional cast will take the show to theaters throughout the Midwest from January through May.

Tickets for the Burnsville show are $34 to $39. For more information, go to www.burnsvillepac.com.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
