Andy Rooney to retire from '60 Minutes'

Andy Rooney, 92, will provide his 1097th original essay this Sunday on "60 Minutes." Then he'll announce he's retiring.

Andy Rooney will provide his 1097th original essay this Sunday on "60 Minutes." Then he'll announce he's retiring. Rooney, 92, has been with the show since 1978. Morley Safer will interview him before the final essay.

"There's nobody like Andy and there never will be. He'll hate hearing this, but he's an American original," said Jeff Fager, "60 Minutes" executive producer. "It's harder for him to do it every week, but he will always have the ability to speak his mind on '60 Minutes' when the urge hits him."

Yeah, that's what they told Walter Cronkite, too.
