Jason Zucker's third-period power-play goal lifted the Wild over the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in their exhibition opener Monday night in State College, Pa.
Former Gophers defenseman Mike Reilly assisted on the game-winner, which came with 4.6 seconds left. Kurtis Gabriel scored in the second period for the Wild, which started Alex Stalock in goal.
Zemgus Girgensons scored in the first period for Buffalo.
The game was played in the Penn State arena bearing the last name of Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula, who donated the $102 million for the building the Nittany Lions use for their varsity hockey program.
