Legacy: Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993. Will have his No. 5 retired by the Montreal Canadiens this season.

As a player: Played on six Stanley Cup championship teams with the Canadiens (1971, 1973, 1976-79) as one of the “Big Three” defensemen with Larry Robinson and Serge Savard. Had 171 goals and 451 assists for 622 points in 884 NHL regular-season games (1968-84). His career plus/minus was plus-347, and he had 812 penalty minutes. Set Canadiens record for goals by defenseman (28) in one season. He had 26 goals in 123 playoff games.

After retiring: General manager/coach, Longueiuil (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League); assistant coach with Quebec and Calgary; scout with Calgary; joined Wild in 1999.
