The Wild is having trouble scoring, but its Team USA prospects certainly showed Monday night they can light the lamp.

Charlie Coyle had a hat trick and Jason Zucker had a goal and two assists as the United States hammered Denmark 11-3 in Edmonton, Alberta, in an opener in the World Junior Championships.

Coyle, acquired by the Wild in the Brent Burns-Devon Setoguchi draft night trade, scored 24 seconds into the game -- on an assist by Zucker, a 2010 second-round draft pick. Zucker scored later in the first as the Americans rolled in their start to the under-20 tournament.

Two players for the Gophers got into the act, too. Kyle Rau scored two goals and Nick Bjugstad had one.

Team USA will play Finland on Wednesday afternoon.

Canada opened with an 8-1 rout of Finland in Edmonton. Mark Stone had a hat trick and Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and four assists.

Sweden beat Latvia 9-4 at Calgary as Max Friberg scored four goals. Goalie Johan Gustafsson made 31 saves, and fellow Wild prospects Jonas Brodin and Johan Larsson had two assists and one assist, respectively.

Russia beat Switzerland 3-0 late Monday night at Calgary.
