Report: Fitzgerald to get rich deal

SEATTLE -- Larry Fitzgerald Jr. won't be returning home to Minnesota anytime soon -- at least not to join the Vikings.

The wide receiver, who was set to become a free agent after this season, will sign a record eight-year, $120 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals that includes close to $50 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Minneapolis native and former Holy Angels star was a ball boy for the Vikings as a kid, so there was some thought that if he played out his contract in Arizona he could return home. But Fitzgerald made it clear at his workouts this offseason on the University of Minnesota campus that he wanted to stay in Arizona.

This news comes a few days after it was reported that if Fitzgerald did not sign an extension he could leave Arizona with no restrictions. That's because, according to ESPN, the four-year, $40 million deal Fitzgerald signed in March 2008 included a clause that prevented the Cardinals from designating him with the franchise tag after this season.
