Name: MISTRAL RAYMOND, CORNERBACK/SAFETY, SOUTH FLORIDA

Round, pick number: Sixth, 170

Size: 6-2, 192 pounds.

The skinny (revised after hearing Raymond interview): Raymond was listed as a safety in his South Florida bio, but said he started 11 of 12 games at corner last season. He made only one start at safety. We initially thought this move was to create depth at safety but clearly the Vikings wanted a versatile defensive back and it appears Raymond will be in the mix at corner to start.

Inside information: Started 11 of 12 games last season as a senior, finishing with one interception, seven pass breakups, 56 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss. He finished his three seasons at South Florida with two interceptions in 34 games. Was a second-team All-Big East selection last season. Raymond transferred to South Florida and walked on to the football team but ended up as a defensive co-captain. Last season, he played outside at corner but then moved inside in the nickel package.

Pro Football Weekly summary: Wasn't listed in their book and was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine. Raymond has been through a lot and recently lost his sister.

Judd's take: The Vikings are on quite a sixth-round run here with three rapid-fire picks in the round after the trade with Cleveland. It will be interesting to see how many of these late-rounders actually make the team. Minnesota was interested enough in Raymond that they invited him to its top-30 dinner.

The quote: "When I was up on the visit we talked primarily at corner but I know if there was a need or interest in me playing safety that wouldn't be an issue. I'm looking forward to playing the cornerback position first." -- Raymond on what spot he will play.

NAME: BRANDON FUSCO, CENTER/GUARD, SLIPPERY ROCK

Round, pick number: Six, 172

Size: 6-4, 306 pounds. Age: 23

The skinny: The Vikings took their second versatile offensive lineman in the round. Clearly they want to create competition on the line but it's hard to believe DeMarcus Love or Fusco will be competing for starting jobs in 2011. The Vikings have had success taking offensive linemen in the late rounds. Matt Birk was a sixth-round pick out of Harvard in 1998.

Inside information: Started all 44 games of his career at Slipper Rock at center. Had 332 knockdown in that time. Last season, earned All-America first-team honors from the NFL Draft Report, the Associated Press and several other organizations after starting all 11 games at center. Also was named as the 2010 recipient of the Gene Upshaw Division II Linemen of the Year Award, the Dave Rimington Award as the top Division II center in the nation. He was a team captain for the past two seasons at Slippery Rock. Did not allow a quarterback sack or pressure, as he delivered a career-best 107 knockdowns. Fusco did not play football until his junor season at Seneca Valley High School.

Pro Football Weekly summary: "Outstanding-sized, upright, zone blocker who should contend for a job as a swing interior backup and has the grit, tenacity and upside to will his way into a starting lineup. Versatility is a plus."

Judd's take: The Vikings definitely need to increase their depth in the interior of the offensive line and this should help. Look for him to play behind John Sullivan at center and compete with Jon Cooper. Fusco would seem like a potential candidate for the practice squad if the Vikings feel he needs more time to develop.

The quote: "I really wasn't into sports that much, sophomore year I didn't really do nothing and football just came to my attention. Always watched it on TV. I was in a [ticked] off mood sometimes so I wanted to get on the field and take my frustrations out on people. Just started football and really loved the sport." -- Fusco on why he didn't play football until his junior year.
