Vikings continue to work on assembling staff

The Vikings have been very tight-lipped about the moves they are making in filling out Leslie Frazier's coaching staff but some tidbits have emerged.

  • Josh McDaniels interviewed Friday for the offensive coordinator's job but there is no indication it was anything more than a chance for the sides to talk. There already is speculation that McDaniels could end up as the offensive coordinator for the Dolphins, replacing Dan Henning. If McDaniels doesn't land in Minnesota -- Darrell Bevell remains the Vikings offensive coordinator at this point -- the team could take a run at Chris Palmer. Palmer, currently coach of Hartford of the UFL, is a long-time NFL assistant. He was head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 1999 and 2000. Palmer's most recent NFL job was as a quarterbacks coach for the New York Giants from 2007 to 2009.
  • The Vikings are expected to interview candidates this week for the positions of offensive line coach and special teams coordinator. Former Carolina offensive line coach Dave Magazu could land in the same job with the Vikings and Mike Priefer, who spent the past two seasons as special teams coordinator with the Broncos, might assume that spot on Frazier's coaching staff. Brian Murphy remains the Vikings special teams coordinator but finds himself in the same precarious situation as Bevell. The move away from Murphy would be surprising given the improvement the Vikings made when he took over in 2009.
  • Ryan Silverfield, who had been an assistant to Karl Dunbar with the defensive line, is expected to be named assistant offensive line coach, replacing Jim Hueber. Hueber was let go last week, as was offensive line coach Pat Morris and quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers.
  • Update: Leslie Frazier appeared on "Sports Wrap" on KSTP-TV (Ch. 5) tonight and was asked about McDaniels' visit. "Just talking with some different coaches about opportunities to help us to get one of these [Super Bowl] rings," Frazier said. "That's the whole goal is to be able to get one of these rings. So we're talking with different coaches and just trying to make sure we're doing the right things with our offense, our defense and with our special teams."
  • Asked about his good friend Mike Singletary, who is expected to be hired as the Vikings linebackers coach, Frazier told host Joe Schmit: "We go back a long, long ways, all the way back to our playing days. A person that I stay in contact with throughout the season. We talk probably once a week about different matters that are going on in our respective lives. Not only in football, but also in our family lives. He's a great friend, a guy that I have a ton of respect for and just hoping for the best for him."
