From doubtful to active: Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph will play today vs. Bengals

Tight end Kyle Rudolph made quite the turnaround as he’ll play Sunday despite head coach Mike Zimmer ruling him out earlier this week.

Rudolph was originally listed doubtful to play due to an ankle injury that kept him from practicing this week. He was upgraded to questionable on Saturday and will play.

Riley Reiff will miss his first game of the season due to an ankle injury suffered in Carolina. He’s inactive after being listed doubtful Friday. Rashod Hill will get his sixth straight start, first of the season at left tackle.

The Vikings offensive line will have right tackle Mike Remmers and center Pat Elflein back in the starting lineup.

Cornerback Mackensie Alexander was ruled out earlier this week due to a rib injury. Veteran Terence Newman will likely see an increased role as the primary nickel corner.

Vikings’ inactives: Reiff (ankle), Alexander (ribs), QB Kyle Sloter, DE Tashawn Bower, DT Jaleel Johnson, WR Stacy Coley and RB Mack Brown.

Bengals’ inactives: RB Joe Mixon (concussion), LB Vontaze Burfict (concussion), CB Dre Kirkpatrick (concussion), LB Kevin Minter (hamstring), LB Nick Vigil (ankle), OL Christian Westerman and DT Josh Tupou.

Kyle Rudolph upgraded to questionable against the Bengals

UPDATE: On Saturday morning, the Vikings upgraded tight end Kyle Rudolph to questionable for Sunday’s game against the Bengals. He was originally listed doubtful Friday due to an injured ankle that kept him from practicing this week.

The Vikings appear likely to be down to two tight ends Sunday against the Bengals.

Starter Kyle Rudolph was unable to practice Friday, marking his third missed practice this week due to an ankle injury suffered in Carolina. He’s listed doubtful to play against the Bengals. Earlier today, tight end Blake Bell was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

Tight ends David Morgan and Kyle Carter, promoted from the practice squad on Friday morning, were the only two at practice again on Friday.

Left tackle Riley Reiff (ankle) donned a helmet again and rejoined the offensive line in position drills on Friday, however backup Rashod Hill also took snaps alongside left guard Nick Easton. Reiff is listed doubtful to play Sunday, so expect Hill to start at left tackle.

Right tackle Mike Remmers will return after missing the last five games due to a concussion and lower back injury. He was a full participant in Friday’s practice. Center Pat Elflein (shoulder) will also return after sitting out last week.

Cornerback Mackensie Alexander (chest) is the only Vikings player officially ruled out, however Rudolph and Reiff are not expected to play. Expect a bigger role for Terence Newman as the nickel corner.
