Every weekday, we walk you through what's going on with the Vikings.

WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

— Former Vikings quarterback and current Raiders quarterback Christian Ponder said he expects to be booed when he plays at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday night. I don't know. He could be OK since he'll probably complete passes to Vikings players for big plays. Plus, he could always dilute the venom by holding up a "Bill is here, too" sign and pointing toward Raiders offensive coordinator and former Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave.

— David Yankey used to be a man stuck behind two men fighting to be the next man up. Today, the 2014 fifth-round draft pick could be a mere one more injury from being the man at right tackle.

—Sid Hartman (and that fancy online mug shot of his) has an interesting historical piece on the Vikings' AFL connection and how their decision to back out led to the Raiders into existence. Also, read it just to picture Sid as a "go-between" for the Vikings' ownership group and a man named George Halas.

— Defensive coordinator George Edwards says rookie first-round draft pick Trae Waynes is "right on course."

AROUND THE NFC NORTH

—The Lions went to Washington Thursday night and lost to the Redskins 21-17, but Matthew Stafford was sharp and the starting defense pitched a shutout in the only quarter it played.

—Who says it's too early to project who will pick where in the 2016 NFL draft. I mean, that's what all this other stuff is about, right? To figure out if your favorite team will get a high draft pick or not. Right? Well, according to Vegas via the Chicago Sun-Times, Da Bears will pick eighth.

— Aaron Rodgers, who played 33 snaps against the Patriots in the Packers' preseason opener, sees value in playing at full speed in an actual game before the real games begin.

TODAY'S VIKINGS SCHEDULE

Nothing. The players are off before playing the Raiders on Saturday night at TCF Bank Stadium.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

There are no coaches in the Hall of Fame with the nickname "Mr. August." So don't get too excited about this tidbit. Coach Mike Zimmer is 6-0 in preseason games and, no, he doesn't consider it a big deal. If you're wondering, which you probably aren't, the franchise record for longest preseason winning streak is 11 games. The Norm Van Brocklin-led Vikings went 11-0 from the last preseason game of the 1963 season through two unbeaten, untied preseasons in 1964 and 1965. They tied Detroit in the 1966 preseason opener before winning three more in a row. That's a 14-0-1 run. Of course, their regular-season record from 1963 to 1966 was 24-27-3, which led to Bud Grant's arrival in 1967.
