A few hundred Vikings fans hoping to get an up-close peek at the team’s new home will get their chance when project architects unveil the stadium’s schematic design May 13 at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.

About 200 tickets to the event will be available to the general public, the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority said Monday.

The tickets, which are free, will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 5 p.m. May 13 at Gate B of the Metrodome. Only one ticket will be distributed per person.

The unveiling, scheduled for 7 p.m., will take place several blocks away at the Guthrie’s 1,000-seat Wurtele Thrust Stage.

Michele Kelm-Helgen, chairwoman of the stadium authority, said Monday that anyone hoping to attend the event must have a ticket to enter. She said most of the tickets are being reserved for representatives of local neighborhood and business groups, the Minneapolis City Council and city staff, members of the city’s stadium implementation committee and the media.

The event also will be streamed live on the Viking’s website at

The presentation of the stadium’s schematic design, by HKS Inc., the project architect, is expected to take about 90 minutes. At its conclusion, the five members of the MSFA board will vote to submit to the design to the city of Minneapolis, which has up to 120 days to review and approve it.

Groundbreaking for the 65,000-seat stadium, to be located on the Metrodome site, is scheduled for October. The Vikings hope to have the stadium ready in time for the 2016 NFL season.

While the Metrodome is razed, the team will play two seasons at TCF Bank Stadium, home of the University of Minnesota football team.
