The Twins opened the season by going 1-5 on the road, getting swept in three games at Detroit before losing two of three against the Chicago White Sox. … They are 2-1 against the Royals, after going 8-11 last season, including 3-6 at Kauffman Stadium. … The Twins scored three runs or fewer in six of their nine games at Kansas City last year. … They entered Sunday ranked 14th in the AL in both runs scored and runs allowed. … Gibson is 4-0 with a 1.38 ERA in four career starts against the Royals. … Glen Perkins has 10 saves in 11 career chances against Kansas City. … They have outhit their opposition in only three games this year. … Monday and Tuesday's games are pitching rematches from last week at Target Field, when Gibson and Milone defeated Volquez and Vargas.

ROYALS UPDATE

The 2014 AL Central champions are 9-3, with two of their three losses coming against the Twins. The Royals opened the season 7-0 and won two of three over Oakland over the weekend, rallying with three runs in the eighth on Sunday for a 4-2 victory over the Athletics to improve to 5-1 at home. … Kansas City closer Greg Holland, who had 93 saves the past two seasons and four this year, is on the disabled list because of a strained pectoral muscle. His roster spot was taken by former Twins RHP Yohan Pino, who made his Royals debut with 4⅔ scoreless innings Saturday after Yordano Ventura was ejected. RHP Wade Davis, Holland's setup man, is handling the ninth-inning role with Holland out. … Despite playing only six games in his major league career, OF Paulo Orlando, only the third Brazilian ever to play in the major leagues, already leads the majors with four triples. … OF Lorenzo Cain is fourth in the AL in batting (.413) and tied for third in the AL in RBI (12).
