TWINS UPDATE
Chris Herrmann started in left field Sunday, and look for more of him and other reserves in this final home series of the 2014 season. Since Arizona is out of the playoff picture, Herrmann, Doug Bernier, Josmil Pinto and other reserves should get playing time. … The Twins are 8-7 all-time against the Diamondbacks. They were swept in a three-game series in Phoenix in 2011, the last time the clubs met. … Nolasco is a 8-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 12 career starts vs. Arizona. … Joe Mauer needs five doubles to tie Kent Hrbek for third on the Twins all-time list.
DIAMONDBACKS UPDATE
Paul Goldschmidt suffered a broken left hand Aug. 1, taking a lot of gusto out of the offense. So much that Arizona could be in the market for a hitter and might be willing to deal starting pitching. Goldschmidt still leads the team in home runs, doubles and walks. … Former Twins backup catcher Henry Blanco is on Kirk Gibson's coaching staff, as is Gibson's former Tigers teammate Alan Trammell. … Arizona fired GM Kevin Towers on Sept. 5 and is looking at several candidates to replace him.
